Many new mansion houses are created to appear as funeral mausoleums, colonial barns, or classical museums. The same is true for the renovation of existing mansion houses. Interestingly, the insides are expected to be very modern and have all the latest technological marvels. It like encasing the futuristic Enterprise from Star Trek inside an antique Mississippi river paddle steamboat. The results are sadly the same. People laugh at owners not only because of their bad taste, but also because they’ve been taken to the cleaner’s with greatly inflated costs. As expected, the resulting renovation is uncomfortable to live in, costly to operate, and is an aesthetic hodgepodge of styles needed to stuff modern conveniences inside.

Originally funeral mausoleums, colonial barns, and classical museums were built at a time when there were limitations in construction technology and the absence of modern conveniences desired in today’s homes. That’s not to mention owners who think just because they have money, they know more than professional architects, engineers, or interior designers about design. The sad reality is they’re unsuspecting sheep ready to be fleeced from their money. Unfortunately, there’re still plenty of unscrupulous architects, engineers, and interior designers ready to agree to any design a client wants while they inflate costs, “steal” the clients’ money, and laugh all the way to the bank.
